Iconic Gossip Girl Looks
Gossip Girl, The 90’s babies Sex and The City. Way too much drama, unrealistic scandals, but most importantly, the amazing fashion. From Serena’s body con dresses to Blair over the top ensembles(always finishing off the look with a headband of course) Gossip Girl really inspired a lot of young girls fashion journeys, including my own.
Rewatching it start to finish in lockdown, made me realize just how iconic the outfits really were, and how they’ve inspired fashion today. I’m going to run through some looks from the show that I love!
Blair Waldorf
How can we not start with Blair? I feel I would lose my seat on the Met Steps if I put Serena first!
Queen of Coats
Blairs coat collection was next level. A long, wool coat, tights, a statement (probably designer) heel, finished off with a cute beret or headband. Iconic. All these items are still very much wearable & on-trend, now in 2020. A style icon from today, that is known for wearing this type of ensemble is for sure, Megan Markle. Careful B, there’s another Princess in town.
Controversial uniform
Ahh B, always adding her own unique touch to her school uniform. She wouldn’t be seen in just a boring old uniform. She loved to push the boundaries (pretty much wherever she could) but especially with her uniform. A lot of her school looks include a mixture of colours that most of us wouldn’t dare try, but of course, she somehow pulls them off! This yellow & red ensemble, I know yellow & red... But just look for yourself, she makes it look chic & classy, and school appropriate? Okay, maybe that one is a bit of a stretch. But she’s Blair, whos going to tell her no?
All things Tweed
Tweed, another one of Blairs favourite things to style. Chanel, clearly influencing her fashion sense, made for some absolutley iconic outfits, that would still be just as classic today as they were then!
Serena Van Der Woodsen
Train Spotting
Spotted: Serena’s very first look to appear in the show, is still one of the most memorable. A brown leather jacket, striped tee & a pair of low rise, black jeans. Still such staples in most women everyday wardrobe! The addition of the neck scarf & the Louis Vuitton suitcase, adds that Serena flair & is a subtle reminder of her IT girl status. Always has to add that something extra to glam up her look, even if it is just to go to the train station.
Bodycon bombshell
As much as Serena tries to put that party girl persona behind her, it never really leaves. This is shown in her countless bodycon dress looks. Paired with a strappy heel, and that Bottega bag, this look could step straight out of 2007 to 2020, no questions asked. Bodycon dresses are one of those items that are always in style. The Bottega Clutch has also made a HUGE come back in the last few year. Serena was well ahead of her time with this look.
