Post Covid Trends

Post Covid Trends

Fashion trends are influenced by the world around us. Over the years we’ve seen dramatic changes in style after historic events. World wars brought us the 1920s Flapper dresses and the1950s full skirted “New Look”, while the major social shifts in the 70s saw Hippie and Disco looks emerge. So what influence will the upheaval of a global pandemic have on fashion? Here’s some predictions on how we’ll choose clothing and express ourselves with fashion post covid.

Personal style

After months of being told what to do, a fashion rebellion is on the cards. We will see less people opting to go head to toe in one designer and more choosing to show their authentic personal style by mixing it up. This includes a push toward more socially aware and sustainable fashion, using vintage and thrift finds alongside designer options.

Colourful Creatives

In a time of social isolation there’s been growing concern for our mental health. We’re learning more about what affects our mood and we have a bit more time to think outside the box. Expect to see layering of bright cheerful colours and a little more creativity when it comes to choosing accessories and prints. Playful and youthful will be the mantra after dark times. Ditch the black and spread some joy. You’re allowed to spread that.

Pockets

Phone, keys, cards, mask, hand sanitizer! Check! In a post covid world we’ve got more to carry. Even though Mega Bags are on their way back in there’s nothing more convenient than a well placed pocket.

The Glam Up

We’ve had nowhere to go for months and those sparkly, fancy, more expensive members of our wardrobe are begging for an outing. Expect to see pieces traditionally saved for evenings out, making their way into day time street style.

Comfort

That being said, it’s going to be hard to pry some of us away from that easy, cosy, comfort we’ve become so used to. Cute cosies will definitely be acceptable outside the house. Just make it colourful and accessorize to make it street style worthy.

Face Coverings

The great mask debate (try saying that fast with an American accent) has been a topic of conversation, but those with a sense of style will embrace anything an make it fashion. Layering scarfs over boring or single use masks has become a trend. Expect to see face coverings become part of street style for a while longer. Be it custom made masks or designer scarfs.

Only time will tell how much we’ll evolve thanks to Covid but we’re already seeing fashion adapt just as we all have. In the mean time stay safe, shop online. Download the Trendii app or use the Chrome extension to shop these looks.
