The Ultimate Zoom Style Guide

The Ultimate Zoom Style Guide

Zoom meetings aren’t going anywhere. So how can we stand out amongst those tiny squares and keep up a sense of style when we can only be seen from the chest up? Here are 5 ways to make sure you look like you’ve got this working from home thing sorted. The best bit is, you can keep your slippers on with all of them!

Before we get into clothes and accessories, let’s take a quick moment to talk grooming. You may not have to brush your teeth but running a brush through your hair can make a huge difference. If you’re short on time remember no one will see the back so a quick ponytail or brushing out the front will do. For those early starts, a pop of colourful lipstick can make you look more awake than you really are and like you’ve been up for a few hours at least.

Don’t forget to download the Trendii App to search your favourite versions of these looks.

GLASSES

Nows the time to get excited about wearing your glasses! If you’ve been using contacts give your eyes a rest and get yourself a statement pair of frames! Did you know you can even get clear prescription lenses put in some sunglasses frames? Why not have a little fun with your personal style and let your eyewear do the talking, even while you’re on mute!

BOWS & SHAPE

Choosing a top with a pussy bow will give you ultimate zoom impact! It helps frame your face and stand out in that socially distanced crowd. Don’t worry if you don’t have one in the wardrobe. Use the Trendii app to find one and while you wait for your online order to arrive, you can create a pussy bow look with a well chosen ribbon, silk scarf or even the waist sash from another outfit. Just keep it simple. If you go too bold with patterns and mixed colours people will struggle to focus on what you’re saying. If bows aren’t your bag, try ruffles, a statement collar or a puff sleeve.

BOLD COLOURS

Colour choice is important on Zoom. Take into consideration your background and lighting. If you’re sitting against a white wall you should avoid wearing white as you risk creating some unintentional special effects and looking like a floating head. If your lighting situation isn’t great, then avoid darker colours or you’ll just look blobby. Avoid busy patterns as they distract and can actually hurt your colleagues eyes when viewed on a digital screen. Play nice and wear a bold plain colour. This will make sure you pop for all the right reasons.

WRAP DRESS

Wrap dresses are known to be easy and hide a multitude of sins at the best of times, but these are your best friend when it comes to working from home! Keep those trackies on and even your comfy bralette. A couple of minutes before your call slip on your dress, wrap it up and you’re set to go. Choosing a nice plain bold colour or luxe fabric like this silk or a satin finish will really give it extra impact.

If your workplace is going a little more casual at the moment, why not take the chance to send a message with a well chosen t-shirt. If you can’t stretch to T-shirts there are plenty of fun acrylic earrings you could try too. Whether you want to let your boss know you need a break, spread the word that kindness is cool or just let everyone in the office know you’re a mermaid. A well chosen T-shirt is a great choice to bring some fun to what is often, lets be honest, a rather dull way to meet. Unless of course your team does a pre meeting show and tell or you like seeing inside other people’s houses! I must admit I enjoy seeing how much attention people pay to their backgrounds and seeing glimpses of what their life is really like.

Before we go just a little reminder about Zoom etiquette. Make sure to use your mute button. It’s for your benefit as well as others. We’ve all had that family member or housemate who doesn’t realise we’re in a meeting as they yell from the next room. Don’t walk off mid meeting without closing your camera. These are the times we discover people chose to go pant-less or they had a strategically placed pile of laundry behind their chair. Finally keep the wine off screen or put it in a coffee cup. You don’t need to make everyone else jealous that you thought to bring wine to the meeting.
