BRIDGERTON GETS TRENDii
Everyone’s talking about Bridgerton! This new Netflix series is a Regency Era Romance (think Jane Austin) with a dollop of modern inspiration (think Sophia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette). One of the most talked about features of the show is the fashion! Costume designer Ellen Mirojnick said “It’s like a big ice cream sundae with all the toppings” and these confection like creations have got people fascinated. While there are many, many historical inaccuracies in the costumes, they do help create a gorgeous world that viewers can’t get enough of, with a spike in searches for things like corsets, gloves and empire line dresses.
This new passion for Regency fashion, which Lyst Insights has termed Regencycore, inspired me. I thought it might be fun to see what our fave Bridgerton characters would wear if they were suddenly living and loving in 2021! I put these images from the show into the Trendii website and found all sorts of fun modern takes on them. Lets tale a look at what happens when Bridgerton gets Trendii.
You can also use Trendii to easily create a modern look inspired by a Bridgerton! Or a Featherington or any of the many colourful characters from the series, just click here.
PS No spoilers, I promise!
Daphne is usually dressed in the family colour Bridgerton Blue and might be please to know its an on trend colour in 2021. This pic of her Georgian style day dress turned up some modern options I’m sure she’d enjoy! I’d love all four.
Simon or The Duke of Hastings as he’s known to most, wears deep reds most of the series. This red velvet coat was one of my favourite looks for him and luckily Trendii turned up some very dapper modern options. They balance elegance with bad boy perfectly and I’d be impressed by any of these modern variations!
It’s hard to know if Eloise Bridgerton would still wear dresses once she discovers that girls can wear what they like now, but let’s assume she likes her style. Here are four current options that Eloise would feel right at home in. If she goes for pants instead I’ll happily take the belted shirt dress or the long Shantung dress.
I wonder if it would help Penelope Featherington to know that her dreaded yellow is the on trend colour of 2021? While she’s not a fan of Featherington Fashion, she might like these Trendii takes on her day dress. One even pays tribute to Penn and her friendship with Eloise with the name Eloise Penn Mini Dress! It’s perfect!
Bridgerton Blue is seen in the outfits of all the Bridgerton boys. Collin’s pale blue velvet coat was another favourite, as were the fitted navy trousers of the era. With pastel blues being an on trend colour for men too, he can still rock his sweet and innocent side on his sleeve. Also do you think Collin's hair style could make a comeback for men in 2021?
Featherington fashion is truly something else. Bright colours and bold florals, with attention drawn to the bust. It was out there for their time but it’s not so hard to find some Featherington worthy modern looks that will have the girls on trend in no time. Hot Pinks and Purples are also in for 2021 and combined with figure hugging cuts these girls would have loads of fun doing try on haul.
This colour of the season suits miss Marina Thompson too, but we’ve got some edgier and more mature cuts for her. She would rock a satin yellow slip dress and could even keep her jewels to wear with it. Personally I love the cut and neckline of the Ariel Mini dress and wouldn’t mind that for myself.
Perhaps Regencycore has influenced current styles so much that the girls would think not much has changed besides hemlines and showing a bit of leg. These four looks are available online now but would look at home on a perhaps slightly more scandalous Bridgerton. These necklines and skimming cuts are so flattering I’m not surprised they are still popular.
We couldn’t finish up without exploring a modern version of one of Daphne’s ball gowns. While there are sadly no balls to attend in 2021 she can still look just as fabulous. I was so impressed by these Trendii suggestions and how they really do seem like modern recreations. My personal favourite is the Saiid Kobeisy gown! I’d wear it to any even i could find and plus side to social distancing is no one’s stepping on your dress either!
Hope you enjoyed seeing Bridgerton get Trendii! If you’ve got any other favourite shows we can try, let us know in the comments bellow.
