Patterned stripes! Now that’s unexpected. The effect of stripes created with pattern can be a more unique or interesting way to create shape and line in an outfit. It’s also a way to add interest to a look without going bold or bright.
Speaking of bold and bright…lets talk colour and the classic horizontal vs vertical stripe. Yes vertical stripes do elongate the body giving you the illusion height, sliming the silhouette and drawing the eye up and down the look. This allows you to be more adventurous with colour choice and intensity, wearing bolder, brighter colours that might not be as flattering in a solid block.

Stripes aren’t all about dresses! Love me a pair of striped shorts for summer! So chic and more flattering than a block colour. I always opt for vertical stripes. Especially on curves I find the way shorts crease and sit, the vertical is more flattering. Same goes for pants! Definitely makes for a more interesting option but I would recommend something straight leg or flowing to let the stripes fall straight and move with the fabric.

Stripes on stripes is definitely and option if you’re feeling bold! A suit of stripes is a statement but you can also try pairing a horizontal stripe top with vertical stripe pants or pairing different colour or stripe size combinations. Have fun with it. I promise that’s allowed. Fashion should be fun.

Speaking of fun….Tada! Nothing is more show stopping than rainbow stripes! In fact more adults should enjoy them. This is playful and youthful while still being fashionable and sophisticated. The frill detail and the use of cooler pastel tones on the bodice make for a flattering overall look. They’ve also balanced the weight and volume of the dress so the horizontal panels definitely work for you rather than against.
